The ultimate bath routine for your baby step by step

  • December 18, 2025

A warm bath is often one of the most loving moments of the day. It's not just a way to keep your baby clean, but above all, a ritual of peace, joy, and connection. With the right bath routine, you create a pleasant atmosphere in which your baby feels safe and relaxed, and so do you.

Why a regular bath routine is important

Babies love predictability. A recurring ritual provides stability and helps develop a sense of security. A bath ritual is ideal for this: it calms, prepares them for sleep, and becomes a moment of closeness.

Many parents find that their baby settles down faster and sleeps more deeply after a warm bath. By following consistent steps, it becomes a familiar and beloved part of the day.

The right preparation

For a relaxing bath moment, a calm preparation is essential:

  • Make sure the room is warm enough (around 23–24°C).

  • Get everything ready: hydrophilic cloths, a soft towel, care products and a clean romper or pajamas.

  • Fill the bath with water at about 37°C and use a bath thermometer to be sure.

  • Keep natural and gentle products within reach, specially developed for sensitive baby skin.

Step by step: the ultimate bath routine

1. A quiet start

Talk softly to your baby as you take off their clothes. Explain what's going to happen. Your baby may not understand your words yet, but they will understand your tone of voice and your calmness.

2. The bath time itself

  • Slowly lower your baby into the water, supported with your arm under his head and shoulders.

  • Maintain eye contact and smile. This creates a sense of familiarity in the moment.

  • Use a small amount of mild baby shampoo or bath oil  without aggressive ingredients to gently cleanse skin and hair.

  • Rinse carefully with clean water.

3. Connect in between

Bath time isn't just about washing. It's a playful bonding experience. Sing a soft song, cuddle in the water, or let your baby splash around. These small interactions create joy and bonding.

4. Drying

  • Wrap your baby in a soft towel immediately after bathing.

  • Gently pat the skin dry, as rubbing can irritate sensitive skin.

  • Don't forget skin folds: armpits, neck and buttocks.

5. After-bath care

  • If necessary, apply a mild lotion or natural oil to moisturize the skin.

  • A short baby massage after the bath will help your child relax even more.

  • Wear soft, clean clothes or pajamas.

Additional tips for a relaxing bath ritual

  • Keep bath time short. Five to ten minutes is often sufficient.

  • Choose a fixed time, for example in the evening, so that your baby recognizes it as part of the daily ritual.

  • Turn off your phone and be fully present. This is your time together.

  • For babies with dry or sensitive skin: choose products with gentle oils that will not dry out the skin.

Possible points of interest

  • Never leave your baby alone in the bath, even for a few seconds.

  • Bathing too often can dry out the skin. Two to three times a week is usually enough.

  • Do not use harsh soaps or perfumes.

  • In case of skin problems: always consult a doctor or child health clinic

Closing: More Than Getting Clean

A bath is much more than just hygiene. It's a ritual that brings peace and security. With warm touch, gentle products, and your full attention, you build memories that your baby will unconsciously fall back on later: the feeling of safety and love.

At Olunaya, we believe these small daily rituals are the foundation of trust. This way, a bath becomes not only a moment of purity, but also a gentle start to a good night's sleep. 🌙
